Our Design Theory

We believe in sustainable, thoughtful landscape design. Specializing in small spaces, awkward locations, and older homes; our style is natural, intriguing, and focused on expanding your living areas outside. Your yard should be an oasis, no matter the size.

Our initial design strategy focuses first on developing a structural layout and establishing the features that will exist through every season. The structural layout defines the curves, living spaces, background colors, and movement within a space. Whether a flagstone path, hedge, fence, deck, patio, or even just the shape of a planting bed...the structural layout is essential.

After defining the space, we are able to consider the 'softscape'. We design for 3-5 years down the road, allowing enough room for each plant to grow to maturity. Our plants are selected for the environment that currently exists as well as how that environment will change in the next few years. We select plants with year-round interest, beautiful color combinations, and wildlife in mind.

While other large landscapers assume up to 30% of the installed plants will die, our team assumes that less than 5% will have an issue. We personally select each specimen at the nursery, looking at the shape, health, and size before purchasing. We then take the time to carefully install each and every plant, amending the soil as needed, and mulching to preserve the new roots. Nothing is rushed.
